It was my cousins birthday last week and I spent hours painstakingly sewing him this eye mask that would ingeniously make him look awake even if he wasn't. The result was more than a bit Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtley so not exactly realistic but it does the job...

Asides from browsing Youtube for interesting and weird things to do with makeup, I also spend a fair amount of time on my new favorite blog Cabin Porn, which is a lot less seedy than it sounds. Basically it is the ideal procrastination for anyone who doesn't live somewhere idyllic and picturesque, so that leaves quite a lot of people who would love this blog. On a recent trip to Switzerland, I did a bit of off-piste skiing to seek out some of my own wooden hut hard-core, here is what I found in the snow-topped mountains of Tschiertschen

Recipe for Success

A while ago I decided it would be a good idea to hone down a recipe for the best home cooked brownies, this may or may not have been after watching Chocolat. Instead of winning myself a tall, dark, handsome gypsy man however, I'm just peer pressured into baking these for every birthday, house warming, leaving do... Whatever celebration, so after several requests here is the recipe for everyone, it may not get you a handsome stranger, but it will certainly win the hearts of all your friends

- 600g Dark Chocolate

- 250g Butter

- 6 Eggs

- 300g Sugar

- 200g Flour

- 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract

- Preheat the ovento 180C/Gas 4

- Line a large tin/ two small ones with non stick baking paper 

- Melt the chocolate and the butter together into a smooth liquid

- Whisk together the eggs and sugar untill pale and creamy

- Pour in the chocolate mixture and gradually sift in the flour

- Stir gently until combined then add the vanilla (and walnuts if you like)

- Spoon mixture into the tin(s) and bake for 30 minutes

As tradition would have it, in Germany at least, I spent today painting Easter eggs with some friends. I think the last time any of us attempted this was at least 15 years ago, the quality of the resulting decor was possibly a lot better back then, but a few drinks, a couple of omelets and lots of messy painting later we managed to assemble some pretty decent looking Easter decoration. Naturally I'm saving the traditional UK chocolate binge for Sunday

Last weekend Meg and I spent some time on the coastline of Liguria, Northern Italy; After taking an early train down from Milan, we spent the day eating fresh pasta in Santa Margherita, sunbathing on Paraggi beach and drinking Aperol Spritz in Portofino (we spotted Naomi Campbell woop). The scenery was stunning and I fell a little bit in love with the architecture, or more specifically the adornment applied to it. I took about ten million photographs, but for now here is a small selection of the best door knockers of the day

My friend Meg has an extremely beautiful, extremely expensive and very un-PC MaxMara fur collar, which I borrow at every opportunity because its amazing and makes me feel like a little Russian princess. This weekend I made my own version by sewing a silk lining and ribbons to a vintage fur coat collar. Somehow the fact that its vintage makes it ok that something cute died for fashion, plus it didn't cost a months rent

YouTube tutorials are rapidly becoming my number one form of procrastination; my personal favorites are the make up ones that show you how do things like look like a Drag Queen or Vampire. I actually drew these guys with the idea that I could plaster blown up versions of them around Neukölln, specifically one wall which would become a kind of illustrated avery of my feathered friends. Unfortunatly though I am A. Scared of the dark and B. Scared of the police and therefore they are probably never going to go further than this blog.

Thanks to London based Locavore Alice Bamford I spent a solid week experimenting with different ways of drawing English fruit and veg to decorate her new blog. For days my desk was strewn with an assortment of crayons, colouring pencils and screwed up sketches of potatoes, which are quite frankly, impossible to draw. See the logo here (note the lack of potatoes...)
